Types of Aluminum Windows for Buildings

Aluminum windows and doors are popular for buildings due to the numerous benefit it offers in terms of costs, design choices, less maintenance, and durability. Aluminum windows can be recycled and reused again, which makes them a sustainable choice for buildings.

Compared to other window type like steel or fiberglass, aluminum is cheap and possesses high corrosion, ultraviolet, and anti-bacterial properties.

The different types of aluminum windows available in the market are:

  1. Fixed Windows
  2. Awning Windows
  3. Casement Windows
  4. Bi-Fold Windows
  5. Sliding Windows
  6. Stacking Windows

1. Fixed Windows

Fixed aluminum windows cannot be opened. They are also called picture windows. These window types are used to showcase a view or to allow light to pass through dark areas.

2. Awning Windows

These are aluminum windows whose top is hinged and the opening part is called as sash. These are used in rooms to allow airflow when required. It shields the rain better than casement windows.

3. Casement Windows

These are aluminum windows that are hinged at the sides rather than the top. It forms a side-opening style. When they are closed, they look similar to awning windows.

4. Bi-Fold Windows

These involve two or more hinged panels that would fold back to create a large opening. Even number panels are used to create bi-fold panel windows to make the opening and closing process easier.

Bifold windows are often used to create a seamless opening between the indoors and out, in areas such as kitchens or bars.

5. Sliding Windows

These windows have one sliding track that lets the panels slide behind the fixed panel. They are a great choice for increasing the airflow or connecting indoor and outdoor living areas.

They are also a safer choice for walkways or high-traffic areas as they do not protrude past the frame.

6. Stacking Windows

These windows have two or three sliding panels which allow the opening to open two-thirds of the window.
