What is Thermodynamics?

Thermodynamics is the science that deals with the study of the interaction of energies in the form of heat and work.

The energy can be converted to useful work. Not all energy be converted into work. It merely depends upon the:

  • Availability of the energy
  • How much energy can be converted to useful work

Thermodynamics not only deals with the thermal behavior of matter but also with the physical and chemical behavior of the matter.

Study of Thermodynamics

The study of thermodynamics is performed in two forms:
  1. Classical
  2. Statical

Classical Thermodynamics

This deals with the macrostructure of the matter. Here the characteristics of large aggregations are only bothered.

Statical Thermodynamics

Here, the study on the microscopic level of the matter is carried on. Individual molecules are studies specifically.
